At this early stage, leadership allows for culture to be organic. We’re not interested in mandating “culture” in any certain way. We want the people who work here to be the leaders of establishing our company culture, and thus far they’ve done a great job. To achieve that, leadership does lead by example and makes plenty of space for calling out great work, working collaboratively, and supporting one another. Much of our culture has stemmed from those support spaces.

Recognition, rather than an outlier experience, is constant and embedded in our culture. From Kudos channels in Slack to shout-outs at our weekly all-hands meetings, there’s never a shortage of hype. Leadership also spends time and effort really understanding not only the outcome but also the challenges of what everyone is working on. By design, we know what everyone is working on pretty intimately, and we all see the work at many stages, so we don’t just see the outcome, we see the process. And in seeing the process we’re able to not only celebrate the achievement, but acknowledge how difficult it may have been to get there. And being recognized for that perseverance often feels like its own separate achievement entirely.
